I am inspired by the magical day outside and
my little water fountain beside my desk.
Surrounding it are fresh flowers I have picked fromthe garden in a
multitude of colour and texture and perfume and I wonder as I sit here typing
how often do we do the simple things for ourselves, like, just picking flowers
and taking time out to smell the roses. Do we have any understanding how the simplethings are therapeutic for
our wellbeing? The water gently
caressing down the figurines is creating the sensitive sounds of a waterfall.
BEAUTY
BASICS
It is said that beauty is within and this is
so.
The number one priority for beauty is inner health, diet, nutrition, water and exercise.
A well balanced diet of fresh vegetables and
fruit, little red meat, chicken and fish along with your grains and nuts are of
the utmost to inner health.
A good
balance of these will impress the quality of your skin and how you feel.
When it comes to eating healthy, there are several
things to keep in mind in terms of what you must eat to help improve your skins
quality. In fact, your skin is a direct
reflection of the quality of foods you do consume.
Vitamins and minerals are essential for health, but
sometimes a good diet may not be enough.
Getting the right amount of vitamins and minerals is a key factor in
staying healthy.
In an ideal world, none of us would ever take vitamin and
mineral supplements.
We'd get all the nutrients we need by eating a variety of
healthy and nutritious foods. That's definitely the right way to go about it,
unfortunately, life often gets in the way of perfect eating.
It's important to
note, however, that taking vitamin and mineral supplements is not a cure-all
for an unbalanced diet
But what are vitamins and minerals? And why do we
worry about getting enough?
Vitamins are nutrients that your body needs in small
amounts to work properly and there are two types: fat-soluble and water
soluble.
Fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K) are, not
surprisingly, found in fatty foods such as dairy produce, animal fats, oily
fish and vegetable oils and we don't need to eat them every day because our
bodies can store them.
Water-soluble vitamins (including vitamin C and the
B vitamins) have to be eaten more frequently as they are not stored in the
body. They are found in fruit, vegetables and grains.
Minerals, meanwhile, are needed for a range of
functions including building strong bones and teeth, turning the food we eat
into energy, the production of red blood cells and the development of immune
cells. They are found in meat, cereals, fish, dairy foods, fruit and vegetables
and nuts, and include calcium, iron and magnesium.
You may also hear health experts talk about trace
elements which are a third essential nutrient which our body needs but in very
tiny amounts. They include selenium, fluoride, iodine and zinc, and are found
in small amounts in a wide variety of foods. To receive the best benefit from your diet,
eat a diet that is rich in antioxidants. Choose vegetables and fruits that have deep colours. For example, deep greens are important. Choose a wide range of colours, too. Yellow squashes, spinach, broccoli,
silverbeet, oranges, melons, all
berries…Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, these are all
rich in nutritional value and antioxidants that will provide a benefit to your
skin and body.
Your diet has a direct affect on the quality
of your skin and wellbeing.
Another
major factor is exercise – fresh air – walking, bicycle rides and swimming are
all healthy sports.
The food you eat is a direct reflection of
how your skin will look. Again
antioxidants are excellent source of Vitamin C.
Vitamin A is dairy.
Vitamin B is found in bananas, red meat and
wheat germ.
Folic acid is also found in bananas and
excellent around menstruation time for the ladies. Kiwi fruit, capsicum,
tomatoes and oranges are high antioxidants and contain Vitamin C.
Zinc is found in seafood, eggs, cheese and mushrooms.
Iron is found in red meats and seafood and
avocadoes are brilliant for your skin and have been known to assist in the well
being of us at times of disease.
Eat lots of the deeper colours, like
greens, oranges, yellows. It also indicates the freshness of the vegetable by
its colour.
Remember …Your body is your temple and your
heart is the emperor. Treat them well
and they will perform for you.
